Official Trailer for Ready Player One
It has been five months since the teaser trailer for Ready Player One was released. The movie is a sci-fi film that is directed by Steven Spielberg. It is based on the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline. Both the novel and the film are chock full of 1980’s and 1990’s pop culture references. The movie is set in a dystopian future in 2045. The world is facing social problems, environmental, and economic stagnation. In order to escape the harsh reality of life, people turn to the OASIS. The OASIS is a virtual reality simulator. Players enter the OASIS through haptic technology such as visors and gloves.
The story follows a young man named Wade Watts who enters the virtual world. He enters it five years after the creator of OASIS, James Halliday, passed away. After Halliday passed away, his will was made public. In his will it was said that he had left an Easter egg inside the OASIS, and the first person to find it would inherit half a trillion dollars and total control of the OASIS. While playing, Wade discovers one of the three keys pointing to the treasure, and thus his misadventures begin.
The Trailer is full of pop culture references such as Joker, Harley Quinn, Lara Croft, Tracer from Overwatch, Chun-Li from Street Fighter, Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, Gundam, Deathstroke, Iron Giant, King Kong, Chucky, the DeLorean, Dance Dance Revolution, a motor bike that looks like its from Tron with the lights around the wheels (complete with an Atari logo on it) but it is styled more like the bike from the 1988 sci-fi film Akira and so much more. Ready Player One will be in theaters on March 30, 2018.
