METROCON 2017 will be a four day long anime convention held in Tampa, Florida on August 3-6, 2017.
METROCON 2017 will be held in the heart of downtown Tampa, Florida at the Tampa Convention Center on August 3-6, 2017. This year is the anime convention’s fifteenth anniversary. Each year METROCON chooses a theme that they use to theme their event, entertainment and overall vibe at the convention. Since 2004 they have always used a versus theme and the theme for METROCON 2017 is “Faithful vs. Fallen”. This years theme will focus on those great heroes of the light and the villains who fell from grace, as well as everything in between.
Celebrity Guests at METROCON 2017
This year METROCON will welcome a list of talented Celebrity Guests such as voice actor Steve Blum who is known as the voice of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, voice over actress, writer, singer and director Mary Elizabeth McGlynn who is known for her work in Star Wars Rebels, Scott McNeil who is known for his voice acting in Gundam Wing, and voice over actor, singer, producer and director Cristina Vee who is known for her work in Sailor Moon.
Also attending METROCON 2017 is voice actor, music composer, singer, producer, writer, and director Vic Mignogna who is known for his work in Fullmetal Alchemist, voice actor Max Mittelman who is known for his work in One-Punch Man, voice actor and spokesperson Ray Chase who is known for his work in Final Fantasy XV, voice actor Robbie Daymond who is known for his work in Sailor Moon and Final Fantasy XV, and voice actor, actor, singer, and instructor Paul St. Peter who is known for his work in Kingdom Hearts and Naruto.
NoFlutter, the incredibly gifted Floridian artist who is best known for her unique and stylized characters and concepts, will be a Guest Artist at this years event. Several of her fantastical drawings have even been brought to life by many talented cosplayers. You Tube sensation Caleb Hyles, who is known for his big heart and even bigger voice, will be METROCON 2017 as well as creative and talented Cosplay Guest PikaBelleChu.
Events at METROCON 2017
One of the unique events that will take place at METROCON 2017 will be the Anime Human Chess Match. The event is an interesting fusion of Renaissance Faire combat chess and a scripted cosplay involving anime characters from multiple shows and games. Another event taking place at this years METROCON is the Masquerade. It will be an all new experience with the idea of transporting attendees to a whole other world. Patrons are required to wear a cosplay of any kind, or to be dressed for the theme of the event. This years Masquerade theme is NeoTokyo, so attendees should think anything dystopian, from the futuristic formal wear from the Hunger Games, to the vinyl streetwear of The Matrix, and other cyberpunk dystopian fictional works. The Masquerade will take place on Friday evening, August 4, 2017. Tickets for the Masquerade are ten dollars online, and twelve dollars at Registration at the convention.
Other popular events that will take place at METROCON 2017 include the METRO Star Party. It is METROCON‘s premier comedy and parody show. The METRO Fire Show is a themed exciting live-fire performance that is choreographed to a fitting soundtrack. Rhythm City Chronicles is a genuine combination of hilarious physical comedy and unparalleled dancing talent. RCC is based in a fictional town where humans and anime characters co-exist. METRO Night Live is a show where they take your favorite comedy sketches and add in some of your favorite anime and video game characters. METRO Massive is America’s largest convention rave. Things to do at METROCON 2017
One of the many things to do at METROCON 2017 is to either partake in the METROCON 2017 Costume Contest, or to be a spectator and watch as many talented cosplayers take the stage. Photographers can showcase their best photos of cosplayers, anime figures, convention photos and more in the Picture This! Contest. Fans can also try their hand at storytelling by blending images and sound to tell brand new stories from their favorite anime titles and submitting it to the METROCON 2017 AMV Contest. For all those music lovers and singers out there, METROCON 2017 Anime Idol gives you a chance to share that epic song in your heart with everyone at METROCON.
This year attendees at METROCON can join the Faithful and Fallen Mascots for the first-ever Cosplay Lip Sync Battle. Participants can create a cosplay lip sync performance that will get the audience engaged, in one way or another. Artists can enter the annual METRO Mascot Art Contest by drawing, sculpting, sewing, or painting the new Faithful vs. Fallen Mascots in their own style. MetroCon, Sore Thumbs Video Gaming and Lowry Parcade have helped make the METROcade a haven for gamers. Attendees can sit down and play a variety of games on consoles such as PSX, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, XBox, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii/WiiU. Dancers can try out their moves on the full arcade-style DDR machine. For those who prefer tables to consoles, Armada Games will be hosting sanctioned Table-Top Gaming events in Rooms 13 – 16 all weekend long.
