Dani Christina Miller in her Wonder Woman Cosplay

Comiccoverage.com met Dani Christina Miller while she was wearing her Wonder Woman cosplay at MegaCon Orlando 2017. We loved her Wonder Woman cosplay and even thought she had a strong resemblance to Gal Gadot so we asked if she would be interested in setting up a photo shoot and interview. We were able to meet up with her in Themyscira at a later date for a photo shoot and interview to get to know a little more about her. See the images from the photo shoot and read the full interview with her below.

Comiccoverage.com (CC): Thanks for meeting up for a photo shoot and interview with us today. What appealed to you about Wonder Woman that made you want to cosplay as her?
Dani Christina: Thanks for the opportunity! I discovered Wonder Woman about five years ago when I first moved to Orlando. I didn’t know anyone when I moved here and spent a lot of time alone. Instead of making friends, I pretty much immersed myself in comics. I started with the older ones that you can find at the local library and Wonder Woman became more meaningful to me than others. I liked that she looked like me and was so strong, yet cared so much about the people around her. When I dressed up as her, I felt powerful. During this time in my life I was feeling really lost. When I went to MegaCon 2013, my first convention dressed as Wonder Woman, I got such an amazing response! It was also my first experience in the cosplay community and I was overwhelmed by how supportive everyone was. I know it sounds cheesy but I felt like I had finally found where I belonged. I’ve been cosplaying as Wonder Woman ever since 2013 with various different outfits and this is probably my favorite version yet!

CC: Tell us about your Wonder Woman cosplay.
Dani Christina: This cosplay was very important to me. I commissioned it from VivaWW Cosplay who I found on Instagram a few years ago. When the Wonder Woman movie was announced, I cried because I was so happy and excited that my girl was finally getting her own solo movie!! I had to find the perfect rendition of her costume and as soon as I saw VivaWW’s version, I had to have it. I shopped around for awhile before making a decision but her costume was the best I found. The sword is actually part of a Roman warrior replica set that came from Rome. I thought it really fit the style of the shoot even though it’s not an exact movie replica. Plus, it’s a bad ass sword!

CC: Has anyone ever told you that you look like Gal Gadot?
Dani Christina: I get told this quite often and I think it is the biggest compliment EVER! She is such a strong, beautiful woman and I don’t mind being compared to her at all.

CC: What other cosplays have you completed?
Dani Christina: I have several different versions of Wonder Woman but other than that my most worn are my burlesque Catwoman and Walking Dead Survivor Harley Quinn. I’ve also come up with a few original horror cosplays that I wear around Halloween and to horror conventions.

CC: What are some of your accomplishments that you are most proud of?
Dani Christina: I recently graduated with my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Acting from UCF which I am very proud of! During my time at UCF, I also trained in stage combat and received my SAFD certification in unarmed combat, quarterstaff, single sword, and sword and shield.
CC: A real life Wonder Woman!
Dani Christina: Yeah, that’s the goal!

CC: What other goals do you still want to accomplish?
Dani Christina: Continuing to better my cosplays and add to my repertoire is a huge goal of mine. Additionally, I’d like to take my acting skills to the other side of the coin and direct as well! Ultimately my goal is to be considered an actor, director, and writer and to be able to use those skills in a series simultaneously.

CC: Which fictional character do you feel you are most like in real life?
Dani Christina: I actually feel like I really relate to Supergirl and her alter ego Kara Danvers. Mostly because I feel like I have an alter ego of myself which is very dorky and nervous on the outside. I actually wear glasses in my normal day to day life, like Kara does. And when I take my glasses off, put some makeup on, and dress up, people literally do not recognize me! It’s like I become a different person entirely. But I like having the option do be both, you know? Some days I want to be myself and other days I would rather be Supergirl or Wonder Woman, depending on the day!

CC: Do you have a fiction character crush?
Dani Christina: I have definitely had a crush on Captain America since way before the new Marvel movies! Chris Evans definitely didn’t help the issue… I don’t know, I’ve always been attracted to his honesty and loyalty. Not only is he strong but he cares more about doing the right thing than getting the job done. I think that’s really important and I love how he is always fighting for what he believes in.

CC: Do you collect anything?
Dani Christina: I went through a really intense comic book collecting phase a few years ago and haven’t stopped since. My collection is mostly DC but I recently began collecting Marvel again to try to compare the comics to the new movies. I’ve also been collecting the Walking Dead comic series since 2009! But before I collected comics, I was always a huge horror movie geek. My DVD collection is almost exclusively horror movies and I love to pull them out when I’m feeling down. For some reason, watching a super gory horror movie always puts me in a good mood.

CC: What are some of your other hobbies or interests?
Dani Christina: I’m absolutely obsessed with Halloween! It’s the best time of the year! My sister and I have always loved horror culture and our house is decorated in Halloween decor 365 days out of the year. We’ve seen pretty much every horror flick on Netflix and try to make it to as many horror conventions as possible. Anything bloody, gory, or weird, that’s usually our jam.

CC: Which horror film is your favorite?
Dani Christina: That’s a really tough one. The original Friday the 13th films are definitely some of my favorites. I love me some Jason Voorhees! But if I had to pick a specific film it would probably be Thirteen Ghosts. Not because it’s good! It’s so bad but in the best way possible.

CC: So, what’s next for you?
Dani Christina: I have a few ideas in the works as far as Halloween costumes go and will be sharing those on my page for the month of October. Starting in mid-September I will be performing five nights a week in two very different interactive theater shows. The first takes place in 1840’s New Orleans where vampires, pirates, voodoo queens, and vagabonds are all on the hunt for an ancient item. The other takes audiences back to the 1980’s on a thrilling journey through the cursed forest of Blackwood where a group of teens are said to have entered and never returned. If you’d like to know more about the shows and performance dates, you can check out their websites at NObeginnings.com and makereal.co/games.html.

CC: Do you have any ‘words of wisdom’ or a favorite quote?
Dani Christina: Bringing it back to my man Cap with a quote that has always resonated with me: “When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world – No. You move.” I’ve always had people in my life trying to tell me what to do or how to live. For some reason, I had to conform to their lifestyle to make them feel better. I’ve reached a point in my life where I don’t care if I make people uncomfortable or if they don’t agree with what I have to say. I’ve been telling people more and more often “No, you move”, and honestly it’s a great way to live.
